Why do I keep sinning no matter how hard I fight the sin itself?

The best analogy I have is somebody who's coughing. They say, I've got to get rid of this cough, Father. I say, whoa, why, what is it? They say, oh, I have bronchitis, but I've got to get some cough drops. Brother, unless you get rid of the bronchitis, you're never going to stop the cough. Sin is like the cough: it's just a byproduct. What's the bronchitis?

Our souls not being in harmony, alignment, and communion with God. When our soul begins to look at Christ and be united to him, all the symptoms of our spiritual illness fade away incrementally. So the key is not to look at what we've done. The key is to look at Christ. If a person takes their eyes off Christ, they become like Peter on the waves. Christ says, walk out on the waves.

Peter does. Then he sees the wind, becomes afraid, takes his eyes off Christ, and begins to sink. If Peter had remained with his eyes on Christ, he wouldn't have sunk. It's the same for you and me. We have to keep our eyes on Christ.
