I keep confessing the same sin and falling again. How do people actually break free?
The great irony is that many people come to confession with the sense: I'm going to do this again, I know I'm going to fall again. And sometimes they don't, because they start to live a spiritual life. They start to repent, to pray daily, to fast, to come to church services, and lo and behold, God starts to give them strength and grace, because they're participating in that grace with God.
Remember, if you try to not do something, it's almost impossible. So if somebody says, I'm trying not to do that sin anymore, I say: don't worry about the sin. Worry about Christ. If you spend all your time looking at and focusing on Christ, the eyes of your heart dwelling upon him, praying, repenting, fasting, the sin will just go away on its own.
