How often should I go to confession if I'm struggling with porn?

Accountability needs to be day by day, week by week. I remember a young man who overcame his addiction to pornography simply because his priest told him: every time you are going to fall, give me a call, and if you do fall and haven't called me, call me afterwards. He said, I was filled with such shame, randomly calling my priest every time I fell, that I could not bear it.

I had to take it seriously and get over it. I talk to guys who say, I went to confession once every three months. You cannot deal with an addiction seeing your spiritual father once every three months. That's not reality. I have guys who text message me every single day: what day they're on, how many days sober from masturbation, where their mindset is at, whether they're stressed, whether they need to talk on the phone.

At the very least, I tell guys, especially young guys: come to confession once a week. Just knowing that you're going to have to stand in front of your spiritual father in three or four days does a huge amount to encourage you. The temptation hits you Wednesday night, and in your mind you go: Saturday I've got to see my spiritual father at church, and I'm going to have to tell him if I fell. It's three days away, and I don't want to do that.
