Is it wrong to feel alone when God doesn't rescue me from my struggles?

There are situations we have to suffer through individually. That is part of our process of becoming like Christ, who says, not my will, but the will of the Father. Sometimes the will of the Father is that we go through life situations on our own, alone, but we are not lonely. Loneliness is something we need to fight against. Being alone is something we have to embrace.

Being alone does not mean we are separated from God. Sometimes being alone just means we are alone with God alone. There is nobody who can ever fully understand the depths of my struggles, the depths of my soul, only God himself. I have to pour out that burden upon him and continue to walk forward even when it is uncomfortable and I do not have immediate relief.

Sometimes in life you may feel like you are drowning, in the water for an extended period, and you think, I will cry out to other people and they will reach down and pull me out. That does not happen. Part of being a man, and part of being alone, is realizing that we have to become proficient at treading water. Our lungs may be burning, our muscles may be burning, and we may have to tread water for a very long time in certain situations of our life.

But like a man in the ocean treading water, God is with him. God has not abandoned him just because he has not removed him from that situation. We may want somebody to jump in and rescue us. We may even pray that God himself will come down and rescue us. But that is not the nature of the spiritual life. So much of the spiritual life is going through it with God.

He is present. He has not abandoned us. Will we encounter sufferings, difficulties, misfortunes, adversity? Absolutely. Will our muscles become fatigued, will we want to give up? We have all been there and felt those temptations. But it is part of our calling. Our Lord Jesus Christ did not shrink away from adversity, suffering, and trials. He embraced them and went into them.

Likewise, brothers, although we may be alone in this life in many regards, we do not need to be lonely. God is with us. God is strengthening us. God is allowing us to go through the adversity so that our muscles are tempered and our lungs become stronger, so that we know that even when we face adversity, he is with us and wants to see us press forward into the struggle.
