How do I stop worrying about tomorrow?

Last but not least, one of the most important verses in the entire Bible, Matthew 6:34: take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. I actually love the translation that says, sufficient unto the day is the anxiety thereof. Does this mean we cannot plan? No.

Does it mean we do not have a strategy or look long-term? No. What Christ is saying is: do not be invested in tomorrow. Do not hold on to tomorrow as if it is going to happen, because we could die tomorrow. Do not hold on to your plans, to the way you think things should work out. He says, leave all that to me. Do not be attached to tomorrow, because today is going to have its own struggles.

If you just focus on the day, you will be able to make spiritual progress. You will be able to repent, to connect with God, to invest in the relationships of the people around you. You will be able to have a very, very good marriage if all you focus on is having a good marriage for today. Because every time you focus on what is good for today, all those days begin to stack up.

Then you look back and you realize you do not just have days, you have weeks, months, years, and pretty soon decades, and everything was trending in the right direction. That does not mean there were no low points or struggles. Lord have mercy, sometimes the devil just gives you a walloping. He shows up in full force some days, and you get humbled, painfully.

But it is unto our salvation. The day we are in today is the only day we have in all of our existence. Right now is the eternal now, because yesterday is gone and tomorrow may not even come. So do not take a care for tomorrow in such a way that you are attached to it, needing to know what is going to happen and how it is going to work out. Tomorrow, the things you thought were going to happen may fall apart.

But they are not falling apart, they are falling together. They are falling into place. That may be hard to accept in the moment, and that is why Christ says: stay in the day. Fight against your feelings and your temptations and your unfaithfulness today, because today has the struggles that are facing you. Do not put your hope in tomorrow, that everything is going to work out, because the only place you can ever find Christ is in today.

If we cultivate this mindset that Christ is giving us, we are set upon a path where we are seeking after him and not after the world, not after clothing or houses or jewelry or cars or finances or a 401k or retirement, but seeking after Christ one day at a time, looking to make today the best it can possibly be for our relationship with him and the people around us.

In this way, Christ will bring all things about in his own timing, even though we do not see how it is going to work together. God bless.
