How do I stop spiraling into anxious what-if thoughts?

One of the devil's tools is what I call the thoughtnado. You have a tornado, but you also have a thoughtnado: you go from one thought to the next thought to the next, and they begin to spin and put you into a cyclone in your mind. A lot of the time it's the what if. The devil says, what if this happens? And you begin to talk with that thought: wow, what if that does happen?

Then the devil pounces: and what if this happens? Say you're going to apply for college. The devil says, what if you don't get accepted? What if you can't find an internship in time? What if you can't find a job? Pretty soon you're in that swirling motion of anxiety, fear, the unknown, and despair. That is the thoughtnado, and it is always the byproduct of demonic energy and power.

The devil wants to whip us up in our mind so that we cannot focus or pay attention. The answer to the what if is: I will have faith in God no matter what happens.
