Why won't God show me how my life is going to work out?

So many times people do not realize that even though Christ is the creator of the universe, all knowing, surpassing all human wisdom, in the Gospels we find these trinkets of simplicity that Christ hands on to us to correctly shape and form our mind. Sometimes we read over them and do not even realize he is giving us the formula for how to cultivate our thinking, how to slow down and approach life in a way that is manageable.

He is not laying out everything that is going to happen in our life, because that is not reality. The life of faith is a life walked down a dark path where Christ is going to see us through to the end. We do not know how we are going to get there. We do not know how it is all going to come together. There is a hiddenness in our life that none of us can unpack, because none of us are clairvoyant, and God does not tell us.

If he told us every step of the way and how everything would come together, there would be no faith. This is why, when people talk about God told me this and God told me that, it is an absolute form of delusion. Christ does not say he is going to give us all the answers in our life. He says, keep your eyes fixed on me. So in Matthew chapter 6 we read one of these little kernels of wisdom: which of you by taking thought can add one cubit to his stature?

Even if you turn something over in your mind and project all of the possibilities and variabilities, can you even add height to yourself? No. Thinking itself, trying to solve the problems of life, is a futility. We lack the power even to make ourselves grow. Why do we think we can conjecture about the future and the possibilities of reality, and somehow that is going to bring it into existence?
