Does 'wives submit to your husbands' make the husband superior?

No. Men were created to be selfless servant leaders in the way of Christ. They were not called to be domineering to their wives. They are not dictators, not superior. They are an equal partner within the marriage. This is why St Paul even says, husbands submit to your wives and wives submit to your husbands. He's not denying that the husband is the head of the family, he establishes that elsewhere, but he says: as Christ loves the church, so husbands love your wives and give yourselves up for them.

That type of leadership is only found in the Christian faith because it is modeled on Christ, whose love for the church was such that he gave his own life and shed his own blood. And how does a wife respond to a husband like that? She wants to see him succeed, she wants the marriage to be fruitful, she wants to give her husband children. They have a deep interconnected bond.
