Why do I feel lonely even though I'm married with kids?
I had a great question in our Skool Q&A the other day. One of the guys asked me, Father, I feel lonely in my life even though I am married and have kids. That question shows an underlying presupposition. We often think as men that we are going to cure loneliness by having a wife and children. But when we get married, our wife wants to put her burdens, her cares, her distress on us, and it does not work in the opposite direction.
It does not work for us as men to place our burdens, cares, and stresses onto our wives, because it has a terrible effect on them. The reality is that there is a certain degree of being a man that always entails being alone. There are going to be difficulties at work, stresses with the bank account, challenges and adversity you have to face that you cannot put on the people in your immediate family, especially your wife and definitely never your children.
It creates anxiety and fear in them, it creates uncertainty. They need their father and their husband to be confident, charging forward, and presenting a stable outlook and disposition that is ready to tackle the difficulties of life. But once someone says he feels lonely, that I think can be cured.
