Is it bad that I'm not always emotionally steady?

I'd love to rank emotional steadiness S-tier, but the reality is it's more like A-tier. It's important, but you're going to be fighting for emotional steadiness your whole life. The saints who were peaceful at all times and in every circumstance, that's why they were saints. I remember a monk on Mount Athos saying, everybody comes to Mount Athos thinking all the monks are perfectly at peace all the time because they read a book about St Paisios.

The reality is we're normal human beings, we have ups and downs, and that's okay. Some people are gifted steadiness from birth, some cultivate it by the grace of the Holy Spirit, and the rest of us struggle to acquire as much as we can. We're not all going to reach the level of the saints, but we keep striving to be emotionally balanced and self-controlled in every situation.
