Church Life

Which Orthodox jurisdiction or parish should I go to?

Of course, I'm in the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, ROCOR. I love the way Orthodoxy is preserved within ROCOR. It is extremely traditional, very regimented, with a very clear ethos, and it looks and feels just like the early church. That said, not everybody has access to a ROCOR church. As a general guideline for looking for a church, I would look for a couple of things.

Number one, that the priest is prayerful: he loves to serve the liturgy and the services, he wants to be in church, he loves the saints and the Mother of God, and you have a sense that he absolutely loves Christ. Number two, that the community is healthy, functional, welcoming, and encouraging to you. Not every parish has all of this, but we find the best we can. What I often tell people is: find a great priest, and in turn you're going to find a great community as well.
