What does the Orthodox Church teach about gender roles?

One of the things that drives me most crazy about American culture is that in trying to blur the roles between male and female, we've ended up blurring the uniqueness of the genders. Blurring the roles was supposed to correct a perceived hierarchy of value in society, but when you look back, men were infinitely more devoted to their wives, their families, and the well-being of the country than they are today.

So in trying to correct something that wasn't a problem, we created a catastrophic one. Now men talk to women like they're men, and women expect men to be like women. When God created men and women, he created them for unique roles but with the same value. A woman's role of supporting her husband, giving birth to children, nourishing and raising them, and overseeing the life of the family was never a bad thing.

It is such a devilish twist to tell women that serving somebody, even your own children, is degrading to you. I mean that literally: it is demonic, because the devil preys on the idea that he himself should be worshipped, and that is why he fell away from God. We see the fruit of it in men who have abandoned the family and sacrificial leadership for hedonism, and in women who reach a certain age and look back and say, I have nothing to show for it, because all of my life has been serving a corporation.
