What advice do you have for Protestants exploring Orthodoxy?

I asked the bishop this question directly, since so many people online are discovering Orthodoxy from a Protestant background, and moving from that ethos to the intensive Orthodox way of life is overwhelming. His answer was very simple: people who want to find the truth need to be open to it. If you're a Protestant and can't understand the principle of the icons, if your heart is open, you can pray about it, read the right literature that explains it, and ask God to help you understand, and you will come to the right conclusions.

When you see the tradition and the sacraments and can't understand them, that's fine. That's how everything starts. Seek and you will find, as the gospel says. Approach with an open heart, ask the right questions, find someone who can spiritually guide you, perhaps your parish priest, and read the right books, and eventually you will see that the truth is the truth.

He added an image that stayed with me: be like a solid log of wood, solid because of your love for God and your faith, left in the middle of the ocean without expectations, disconnecting your efforts from the outcome. The ocean could be the temptations of the world, the society, whoever creates big waves around you, but God's mercy is there too, because the Holy Spirit leads history.

He pointed out that when God gave Noah every detail for building the ark, the length, the width, the type of wood, he said nothing about a steering wheel. Noah and all the animals were left on God's mercy, waiting to see where God would let them land. We would have started with the steering wheel, because we want to be in charge, and whoever has anxiety wants to be in charge. But leave yourself like that log of wood and let God do the rest. He will get you where you should be.
