Is getting married young a good idea?

When we say that God wants us to grow up, we are not saying God wants us to become like our parents, especially if they have issues or are dysfunctional. We mean that God wants us to embrace the responsibility of maturity while remaining present, playful, and enjoyable about life. There is a beautiful quote from St Paisios. He said that often, when people get married young, they have a kind of childlikeness or youthfulness in their marriage that continues on, because they have been together for so long, and they keep that young, vibrant zeal in their marriage even for many years.

For myself, I got married at 20 years old. I was not even old enough to buy beer. It is one of the two best decisions of my entire life: becoming an Orthodox Christian and getting married to my wife. Getting married young was profound.
