Suffering

How can I 'rejoice' when people lie about me and attack me?

This is where I feel so challenged every time I read it. Christ says, rejoice and be exceedingly glad. The persecution is not very much fun, people lying about you is even less fun, and then he says, be exceedingly glad. Sometimes I think if I could just get to the level of indifference where I'm not angered or irritated, that would be progress. There is somebody on Instagram who follows my page around and comments, he's not a real priest.

It's flat-out false, I have a canonical bishop, I'm in ROCOR. And Christ says, be exceedingly glad. For as long as I've been reading this gospel, I ask, how much of this gospel lives in me? So little. There is so much of the old man in me who wants to feel justified in being angry, who says this is wrong, this is an injustice. And in all of those feelings Christ says, no, that's not my gospel.

My gospel is to be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. Not on this earth. That reward in this life is not the life of Christ, not the apostles, not the church fathers, not the saints, not the prophets. If you want to follow after Christ: deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow him.
