Why does God let the demons keep attacking me?

Sometimes going under the waves lasts a day, sometimes long periods where we're battling for enough spiritual oxygen. But it creates endurance in us. It teaches us to be vigilant and to fight. We may think, I'd be such a great Christian if the demons left me alone, but we would be completely negligent people without the demons harassing us. In a weird way the demons are even doing the will of God, because when we use their temptations to turn back to God, it becomes the path of our salvation.

The thrashing shows us that we are being negligent, that our heart is not set on Christ. We realize, this wouldn't be happening if I was connected to Christ. We actually need the temptations to rightly direct us and to show us what is wrong with our souls. If we didn't have thoughts that play on our ego, our pride, our jealousy, our self-love, we would be completely ignorant of what is going on inside of us.

The reality is we are so self-focused. We want life to go our way, we want peace on our terms. We don't want to be peaceful in the midst of temptation. We just don't want the temptations. That's not the Christian life.
