Should you argue with people who challenge your faith?
Christ didn't have just one way that he did everything. Sometimes he answered and sometimes he remained silent. If the disposition of a person is such that they want to argue or be cantankerous, they want to challenge us or get into an argument with us, it's probably best to just forego the conversation. If somebody is genuinely interested and says, "Help me to understand fasting," and they are receptive to hearing an answer, by all means give them an answer.
If somebody's argumentative or has a bias or whatever else, we're fine to just say, "Ah, it's just what I believe and what I do."
